Lipodissolve Injections – Can They Treat Cellulite Problems?

Lipodissolve is a non-surgical type of body sculpting (similar to mesotherapy) that was first introduced in Paris in 1988. Lipodissolve injections are formulated to target and dissolve cellulite deposits. The drug used melts away the fat and doesn’t harm other organs. Lipo dissolve offers a less invasive, lower cost, alternative to surgical procedures such as liposuction.
The drug used in these injections is PPC (phosphatidylcholine) or a mixture called PCDC (phosphatidylcholine deoxycholate). This medication has been used in larger doses than are given in such injections since the 50’s to treat patients with cardiac illnesses. PPC is often used intravenously to reduce cholesterol and plaque.
PPC is a natural substance that comes from soy lectithin. PPC works as an antioxidant. Fat deposits are broken down by PPC and removed from the body with other waste products. PPC alters fat to make it water soluble and then removes it from the system.
These injections are only used on small areas at once. Cellulite is removed and the area is left with a smoother skin after treatment. Lipodissolve treatments are meant to reduce inches, not pounds. These treatments are effective in removing one to one and a half inches from deep within the skin layers.
With a rate of more than nine out of every ten patients reporting satisfaction with their results of treatment, these injections appear to be effective in treating cellulite. However, there have been some legal issues about this cosmetic procedure. These treatments were banned by the Kansas state board of healing Arts in August, 2007, stating the drug lacked FDA approval. Previous bans on the drug were placed in Brazil in 2002 and Canada in 2004.
While over 93% of the people who have had this type of treatment are satisfied, there are some who are skeptical. The complaints leading to bans of these injections revolve around the lack of testing and scientific proof that the process does in fact reduce fat.
Even though Lipodissolve appears to be having difficulty with legal aspects of treatment, the cosmetic and medical aspect appear sound. These injections have been used for over a decade with excellent results.
Cellulite reduction treatments only take twenty minutes when using such injections. The treatments are repeated twice a week for 4 to 8 weeks. The procedure is effective in removing small to medium amounts of cellulite and fat stores. If you have larger amounts of fat that need to be removed, this treatment isn’t the treatment for you. If the patient does not watch what they eat, the weight can be regained. So after treatment, patients need to maintain the weight loss through diet and exercise. ?

Side effects of Lipodissolve injections are reddening, swelling, itching, muscular aching, burning and bruising at the injection site. Exposure to sun can cause some temporary discoloration which goes away with time.
